Biodegradable Packing Peanuts

BIODEGRADABLE PEANUTS

These days more and more consumers are being mindful of their plastic consumption and are veering away from using products that are packed in plastic containers. While these efforts are making strides to help our planets frightful plastic waste situation, we often forget that there are other avenues besides our personal lives where plastic can be eliminated.

At Raw Elements, we understand the need to evolve and make a continued conscious effort to eliminate harmful plastic use in any way that we can. One of the ways that we are contributing to the cause and reducing our waste impact on the planet is through the use of biodegradable peanuts for our packaging instead of harmful Styrofoam or bubble plastic wrap.

What are biodegradable peanuts you might ask?

Biodegradable packing peanuts are made from natural, nontoxic sources, such as wheat and corn starch and are FDA compliant. They dissolve in water leaving no toxic waste and can be thrown into compost piles or your gardens as fertilizer after a single use. Typical Styrofoam packing peanuts, depending on who you ask and the method of decomposition, will take anywhere from a decade to a million or more years to decompose.

Because biodegradable packing peanuts contain no electrostatic charge (meaning they will not stick to clothes) and have zero petrochemicals, they will not damage expensive electrical equipment and are safe for humans and pets if ingested accidentally. Keep in mind, they are not produced in food-safe conditions, and are not recommended for eating.

The production of Styrofoam packing peanuts is also harmful to the environment. Peanuts made from biodegradable materials are safer, require less energy to produce, and the facilities that manufacture them emit fewer greenhouse gases.

Not only do we commit to providing the best products out there, but at Raw Elements we strive everyday to reduce our carbon footprint and extend our earth conscious mind-set into everything that we do!
